Black & White Sunday ~ 10 weeks old!

Today Skipper turned 10 weeks old. It's a little bit of a nerve-wracking realization that he's another week older. His primary socialization window is getting shorter and shorter. So far we've gone to a couple pet stores, Starbucks, a couple department stores (with Skipper safely inside his dog purse), a thrift store and a few restaurants with outdoor seating. He's done really well, has sniffed a few select dogs (that I felt were safe) and been petted by adults and children.

Now, on to what everyone really cares about:

Monday Mischief ~ More Puppy Tails

Skipper went to the vet for his health certificate today. His breeder wrote me to say all is well! He's 4lbs exactly, in the middle but on the heavier side in comparison with his litter-mates. His breeder emailed me today to let me know that he has decided that his food bowl is now a chew toy, and that stuffed animals are fun to hump. Yes, hump. I'm going to have my hands full--this little guy is already actively practicing his instincts! He'll bring a new meaning to the word mischief when he gets here, I'm sure.

It honestly makes me very happy to hear that his personality is shining through. He was the puppy that stuck the closest to me when I visited for the first time--only one of the reasons I chose him, but still a very good sign in my mind.

No new photos this week, so I'm sharing a charming cartoon I found on cartoonizemypet.com. Rat Terriers are still in their archives so they don't have customizable options for them just yet. but this little guy still came pretty close!

8 Weeks ~ Black & White Sunday

Skipper is 8 weeks old today! (The age counter to the right is off by three days, although I put in the dates correctly. I checked several times--technology is weird).

He is so incredibly handsome. Out of the six puppies in the litter, he was the only one looking directly into the camera for his 8-week photoshoot. I've included the same image twice--once in B&W and once in color. The study of his face is so beautiful and shows so much character! It's five days until this incredible little guy comes home with me!

Parents ~ Thoughtless Thursday

I think Skipper's mother is one of the prettiest rat terriers I've ever seen, and his father isn't half-bad either. I can't decide whether I'm hoping for the lopsided ears like his dam or the prick ears like his sire. I think the mismatch is cuter, but if I ever wanted to compete in conformation it is considered a fault (though not a DQ). According to the UKC Rat Terrier standard, matching ears are strongly preferred. Both parents are 18lbs so it's a good guess that will be almost exactly how much Skipper will weigh at maturity as well.
